She is noted for her MySpace profile which led her to become the number one unsigned singer in her genre for four months. Her popularity on the social network was partially due to her song "Bubbly". Her profile has garnered over 25 million plays. Colbie is the daughter of Diane Leineke and Ken Caillat, a record producer known for working with Fleetwood Mac. Colbie's father has also helped produce her music. Caillat's debut album, Coco, was released on July 17, 2007. With tracks like "The Little Things", "Feelings Show", and "Bubbly", Coco reached number one on the iTunes chart; it also debuted at number five on the Billboard 200, selling about 51,000 copies in its first week.
